Frequently asked questions

Everything you wanted to know about Phindr

The honest answers. If something isn’t covered here, we’d genuinely rather you ask than wonder.

The basics

If you’re a couple looking for a photographer, start here.

Is Phindr really free for couples? +

Yes. Completely free, forever. No premium tier, no hidden unlock, no “upgrade for better matches”.

The photographers cover the cost of running the platform through their monthly subscription. That’s the whole model.

Do I need to create an account to start browsing? +

No. Enter your wedding location and you can start browsing photographer portfolios immediately. No email, no password, no account needed.

When you find a photographer whose work you love and want to connect with them, that’s when you create a free account. It takes about two minutes.

Do you take a commission on bookings? +

No. Once you match with a photographer, Phindr steps out of the way entirely. You contact them directly and the booking, contract and payment all happen between the two of you, just like it would if you’d found them on Instagram.

We don’t see, take, or care about what you pay your photographer.

Why don’t I see photographers’ names while I’m swiping? +

Because names carry baggage. Follower counts, branding, who-you’ve-heard-of, who-your-friend-used. None of that has anything to do with whether someone takes the kind of photos you actually want of your wedding.

Hiding names while you swipe forces the work to speak for itself. Once you match, you get everything: name, website, pricing, contact details.

What if I don’t like any of the photographers I’m shown? +

That’s fine, and it tells us something useful. Phindr is currently live in Scotland and the Pacific Northwest, with worldwide launch coming summer 2026. If you’re looking in a region we haven’t fully covered yet, you may run out of photographers to swipe through.

If that happens, drop us an email at hello@phindr.io and let us know where you’re getting married. It genuinely helps us prioritise.

Can I see pricing before I match? +

Not while browsing, no. You set your budget when you create your account (after you’ve started browsing and found someone you like). Photographers only see your wedding details if their pricing fits, so if you match, the budget already works on both sides.

The photographer’s full pricing comes through when you reach out to them after matching.

The matching process

A few questions about what actually happens when you swipe.

What happens when I like a photographer? +

If you haven’t created an account yet, you’ll be asked to do so first. It takes about two minutes: email, password, wedding date, location and budget.

Once you’re signed up, the photographer is notified that someone has liked their work and is shown your wedding details: date, venue, location, style, budget. They then decide whether it’s a fit.

If they accept, it’s a match and you get their contact details. If they pass (maybe they’re already booked that date, or it’s outside their travel range) you simply move on. You won’t be notified of passes, only matches.

Will photographers contact me first? +

No. Even after a match, photographers cannot message you. You initiate contact when you’re ready, on your timeline. If you match with someone and decide a week later they’re not the one, you’re under zero obligation to reach out.

This was non-negotiable for us. Couples told us they’d had bad experiences with directories where photographers chased them down. That’s the opposite of what Phindr is.

How many photographers can I match with? +

As many as you like. Match with one, three, or ten. There’s no limit and no penalty for matching with multiple photographers and only following up with one.

Most couples we talk to match with two or three before settling on the one they want to enquire with.

Can I go back to a photographer I passed on? +

Yes. Once you have an account, your passed photographers are saved so if you change your mind, you can go back and swipe right after all.

How long does the whole process take? +

You can start browsing portfolios in seconds. Just enter your wedding location. When you find someone you like, creating an account takes about two minutes.

Photographers usually respond to likes within a day or two. Once you’ve matched and reached out, the rest is between you and them, just like a normal booking.

Curious from the other side?

If you’re a wedding photographer thinking about joining, the basics are below. Full details on the photographer page.

How much does it cost photographers? +

£19.99 a month. No contract, no minimum term, cancel any time. New photographers get their first two months free automatically.

That’s the whole price. No commission, no per-lead charges, no upsells, no “featured” spots you can pay extra for.

Can photographers pay to appear higher in the swipe order? +

No. There are no paid placements anywhere on Phindr, ever. The swipe order is randomised so every photographer gets a fair shot at being seen.

If we let people pay to appear first, we’d just be rebuilding Google. The whole point is that talent is the only thing that matters.

Are the leads pre-qualified? +

Yes. By the time a couple likes your work, they’ve already loved your photos enough to swipe right. When you see their wedding details, you can accept or decline based on whether the date, location and budget actually work for you.

Nobody’s wasting anyone’s time with enquiries that were never going to fit.

The fine print, in plain English

Quick answers to the things people quite reasonably want to check.

Who can see my wedding details? +

Only photographers you’ve actively liked. Until you swipe right on someone, no photographer sees anything about you, your wedding, or your contact information.

Even after you like someone, they only see your wedding details (date, venue, location, style, budget). They don’t see your contact information unless they accept the match and you choose to reach out.

Can I delete my account? +

Yes, anytime, from your account settings. We’ll permanently remove your data when you do.

How do you vet photographers? +

Every photographer goes through a portfolio review before going live on the platform. We’re not interested in how big anyone’s following is or how slick their website looks. We’re checking for technical competence, consistency, and that they’re an actual working wedding photographer.

Who owns the photos shown on Phindr? +

The photographers do. Always. Phindr is a discovery layer. We just show their work to couples who’d love it. Nothing about copyright, licensing, or image rights changes because of us.

Ready to see some portfolios?

Enter your wedding location and start browsing. No account needed. Free for couples, always.
